Coal Power Plant Emissions Upgrade

The scope of the project was to repurpose and a dual SCR system on one boiler exhaust system into two single SCR systems for two adjacent boiler exhaust systems using our customer’s proprietary SCR technology. LVTA’s scope included the structural design of the modifications to the existing ductwork, as well as the structural design of the new ductwork, the structural support of the new ductwork, and the foundation design needed to allow for this repurposing. Key Design Challenges were the design gas conditions, the size of the ductwork and the necessary support spans over a crowded existing site:

• Maximum duct conditions of 760 degrees F and -42 inches WC
• Duct cross-sections of 38-feet wide by 14-feet tall and 14-feet wide by 28-feet tall
• Ductwork needing to traverse a span of 195-feet, at 70-feet above existing equipment
