Gas Turbine Exhaust System

Gas Turbine Exhaust System

About this Project

The scope of this project was the exhaust conditioning system and stack for a new natural gas peaking turbine. LVTA’s scope included the structural design of the ductwork, supports, internals, and maintenance access for the exhaust gas, tempering air system, SCR, and stack, including portions of the scope that were internally insulated and parts that were externally insulated. LVTA coordinated with our customer, who was responsible for the process, IP, and design specifications, with a flow consultant, with joint suppliers, with miscellaneous equipment suppliers, and with the foundation engineer. Key challenges in this project include the following:

  • Designing and erectability challenges with the size of the system.
  • Harsh internal duct conditions, including extreme temperature, pressure drops, and turbulent flow conditions
  • Specifying the appropriate materials, accommodating the growth, and appropriately supporting the internal components of the system considering the extremely high temperatures
