Slag Drying and Handling System

Slag Drying and Handling System

About this Project

The scope of this project was the installation of a slag drying system and repurposing an existing decommissioned linear clinker storage hall to stockpile both the incoming wet slag and the processed dry slag. LVTA was the lead consultant, responsible for mechanical and site arrangement, civil and structural engineering, and coordination with the electrical engineering consultant. LVTA reviewed submittal, coordinated between suppliers, and provided erector support during installation. Key challenges in this project include the following:

  • Analyzing and reinforcing the existing storage hall to accept a new shuttle conveyor stockpiling system for the dried slag;
  • Layout & arrangement of proposed material storage piles to accommodate client tonnage requirements;
  • Determining transfer conveyor geometry and layout to suit available space on site;
  • Arranging the equipment considering the geographic limitations and the poor site drainage;
  • Coordinating with the four different equipment suppliers
